- Wentz handles Minot - By the time Minot's hitters were
done facing Zach Wentz on Friday he must have seemed
9-foot-2 with eight limbs and three fire-breathing heads. Wentz,
Century's senior pitching ace, brought the heat and hurled a
monster game. The big right-hander blanked the hard-hitting
Magicians 2-0 on two hits in a West Region baseball game at
Municipal Ballpark. Ten Magicians went down on strikes. He

no-hitter - Matt Chuppe and James Carroll were
brilliant. Stephen Laylock and Michael Steve were close to
perfect. Close to perfect won 1-0 at chilly, breezy Haaland
Field on Saturday as Dickinson right-handers Laylock and Steve
fired a no-hitter at St. Mary's. St. Mary's came back to win the

Fools Day, but the St. Mary's pitchers weren't kidding around in
the Saints' season-opener at Mandan. Jon Herold and Dalton

- Govs win
after being down to last strike - The Mandan Chiefs were
one strike away Tuesday night from snapping a long losing streak
against the Bismarck Governors . The Mandan pitcher threw
a strike, but it didn't bring the result the Chiefs were hoping
for. After falling behind in the count 0-2, Bismarck's Nate
Schlosser singled in the tying run with two out in the
bottom of the seventh inning. Then, Jeremy Campbell followed
with a game-winning RBI single to give the Governors a 5-4
victory in the first game of a doubleheader at Bismarck

blowouts? Well, this one definitely qualifies. Try 17 runs on 12
hits and three errors - and that was just the third inning. "I
know I've never hit three times in an inning," Bismarck
Governors right fielder DustinWenzel said in the wake of
Wednesday's 22-2 Legion baseball dusting of the Mandan Chiefs.

Governors - After a dozen games on the road, the
Bismarck Governors finally got to play on home turf at Municipal
Ballpark on Wednesday. Dustin Wenzel celebrated the occasion by
doubling home a run in his first at-bat and igniting a 5-1
Western Division victory over the Devils Lake Storm. The

Governors - In the first game of Monday’s doubleheader
between Bismarck and Minot, the Governors hit the stitches off
the ball. In the nightcap, the Vistas responded with one part
long ball and one part small ball. The Govs knocked 14 hits off
Minot pitching to take the opener 9-4, but behind Zac Elgie’s
two home runs the Vistas took the second game 7-4 to earn a West

Zach Wentz is living below the poverty level. Wentz,
Century's junior right-handed pitching ace, has surrendered just
one earned run in his last two starts. He has nary a win to show
for it. Monday, Wentz, a hard-throwing 6-foot-2, 195-pounder,
yielded one run - unearned - and lost 1-0 to region-leading

Braves over 12 innings in a sweep Monday. Zach Klabo
threw a one-hitter in the first game, striking out three without
a walk. St. Mary's got its runs in the sixth as Cody Erhardt
went 2-for-3 with an RBI and D.J. Schmitz added the other
RBI. In the second game, Drew Eichele , who had a double
in the first game, was 2-for-2 with an RBI. -

Century's Alex Allen struck out seven and stranded 10 St.
Mary's runners as the Patriots blanked the Saints 3-0 on Tuesday
at Municipal Ballpark. Allen's seven goose eggs salvaged a
doubleheader split for the Patriots, who dropped a 5-1 decision

Josh Standing Elk is one of two Mystics named to the
All-Mon-Dak Conference team for 2007. Standing Elk, a sophomore
third baseman-pitcher from Bismarck, won two of his five
decisions this season and led the Mystics in innings with 37. He
posted a 2.46 earned run average. Standing Elk also batted .221
with four doubles and seven runs batted in. -

Award at the Bismarck Quarterback Clubs annual banquet. Past, present, and

players were nominated for the Bismarck Quarterback Club's athlete of

Matt Loomis, Cody
Erhardt, Tom Seifert and Zach Klabo elbowed their way into the St. Mary's
baseball lineup in 2005 as an unusually-talented quartet of sophomores. St.
Mary's went 10-22 that spring and last year improved to 16-17. Yet the goal of
playing in a state tournament eluded them -
