The Bismarck Tribune - CENTURY-MINOT BASEBALL - Wentz handles Minot - By the time Minot's hitters were done facing Zach Wentz on Friday he must have seemed 9-foot-2 with eight limbs and three fire-breathing heads. Wentz, Century's senior pitching ace, brought the heat and hurled a monster game. The big right-hander blanked the hard-hitting Magicians 2-0 on two hits in a West Region baseball game at Municipal Ballpark. Ten Magicians went down on strikes. He walked one. (Read story)

The Dickinson Press - Closing Out A Shutout  - Even though the Dickinson High baseball team’s streak of no-hitters in conference play is over, the Midgets ability to close out games is firmly intact. Dickinson jumped on Bismarck High starter Alex Deylee with all three of the game’s runs in the first inning of its 3-0 blanking of the Demons in West Region action Tuesday at Southside Municipal Ballpark. The Bismarck Tribune - ST. MARY'S-CENTURY BASEBALL - Isakson ignites Century - When you're hitting .200, a little help is in order. For Taylor Isakson, help arrived in the form of St. Mary's. The Century catcher banged out four hits on Tuesday as the Patriots swept a doubleheader from the Saints, 11-1 and 1-0.  (Read story)

The Bismarck Tribune - Dickinson pair combine on no-hitter - Matt Chuppe and James Carroll were brilliant. Stephen Laylock and Michael Steve were close to perfect. Close to perfect won 1-0 at chilly, breezy Haaland Field on Saturday as Dickinson right-handers Laylock and Steve fired a no-hitter at St. Mary's. St. Mary's came back to win the second game in another pitchers' duel, 3-2. (Read story)

The Bismarck Tribune - Century-Mandan Baseball: Johnson tough on Braves - When Century plays its rematch next month at Mandan, No. 7, Hunter Johnson will need no introduction. Johnson hurt the Braves on the mound and with the bat Thursday as Century defeated Mandan 3-1 in West Region baseball at Municipal Ballpark. (Read story)

The Bismarck Tribune - Century-Bismarck Baseball: Wentz works through it - It took awhile for Zach Wentz to get in the groove, but it was worth the wait. Wentz, Century's senior pitching ace, opened the season throwing the lion's share of a one-hitter on Tuesday. With Wentz and reliever Ryne Lund stealing the show, Century defeated Bismarck High 6-1 in a season-opening West Region baseball game at Municipal Ballpark. (Read story)

The Bismarck Tribune - St. Mary's-Mandan Baseball: Saints are master of arms - Tuesday may have been April Fools Day, but the St. Mary's pitchers weren't kidding around in the Saints' season-opener at Mandan. Jon Herold and Dalton Eichele combined on a four-hitter as the Saints outlasted Mandan 4-3 in 11 innings in the West Region opener. (Read story)

"I know we haven't won a state tournament game for a number of years," Century baseball standout Zach Wentz said. The Bismarck Tribune - BSC Baseball: Connell playing for Stanley, not against him - Bismarck State baseball coach Len Stanley is glad he’s finally done coaching against Justin Connell during the summer months. Connell has caused Stanley  to reach in the medicine cabinet and pop a few antacids during the American Legion season.(Read story)

The Bismarck Tribune - Govs win after being down to last strike - The Mandan Chiefs were one strike away Tuesday night from snapping a long losing streak against the Bismarck Governors. The Mandan pitcher threw a strike, but it didn't bring the result the Chiefs were hoping for. After falling behind in the count 0-2, Bismarck's Nate Schlosser singled in the tying run with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Then, Jeremy Campbell followed with a game-winning RBI single to give the Governors a 5-4 victory in the first game of a doubleheader at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. (Read story) - July 25, 2007

The Bismarck Tribune - Govs end Vistas roll - Minot's Legion baseball team rolled into Bismarck on Thursday with all the momentum of a lignite-laden freight train. The Vistas were on a nine-game winning streak, a stretch in which they'd scored 115 runs. They left town in reverse gear, stung by 6-1 and 3-1 setbacks. (Read story) - July 13, 2007

Even after a full season of play, opinions are deep- seated over North Dakota's decision to employ wood bats state-wide in high school baseball. The Dickinson Press - Riders demolish Govs - The Dickinson Roughriders crushed three home runs – including a three-run bomb by Ben Herauf in the first inning – and created breathing room with a six-run second inning to prevent the Bismarck Governors from coming back. Bismarck Tribune - Fourth of July fireworks for Governors - So you want to talk blowouts? Well, this one definitely qualifies. Try 17 runs on 12 hits and three errors - and that was just the third inning. "I know I've never hit three times in an inning," Bismarck Governors right fielder DustinWenzel said in the wake of Wednesday's 22-2 Legion baseball dusting of the Mandan Chiefs. Bismarck Tribune - Governors roll past Chiefs - Hitting, the Bismarck Governors demonstrated, is contagious. Mandan showed the reverse can also be true, dropping a 14-0 decision to the visiting Governors Tuesday night at Memorial Ballpark. Bismarck Tribune - A good welcome home for Governors - After a dozen games on the road, the Bismarck Governors finally got to play on home turf at Municipal Ballpark on Wednesday. Dustin Wenzel celebrated the occasion by doubling home a run in his first at-bat and igniting a 5-1 Western Division victory over the Devils Lake Storm. Bismarck Tribune - Coyle hopes 12th time is the charm - Even if it weren't for his love of the game, Brandon Coyle had two strong motives tugging him back to Legion baseball this year. Coyle's return to the Mandan Chiefs this season affords him the opportunity to finish his baseball career with an injury-free season. Minot Daily News - Vistas earn West Region split with Governors - In the first game of Monday’s doubleheader between Bismarck and Minot, the Governors hit the stitches off the ball. In the nightcap, the Vistas responded with one part long ball and one part small ball. The Govs knocked 14 hits off Minot pitching to take the opener 9-4, but behind Zac Elgie’s two home runs the Vistas took the second game 7-4 to earn a West Region split at Corbett Field. Last Thursday, it reached zero...only to have to restart because the Govs opener with Williston was rained out. Wentz, Century's junior right-handed pitching ace, has surrendered just one earned run in his last two starts. He has nary a win to show for it. Monday, Wentz, a hard-throwing 6-foot-2, 195-pounder, yielded one run - unearned - and lost 1-0 to region-leading Minot. - May 15, 2007

Bismarck Tribune - Area Sports - The Saints pitchers dominated the Braves over 12 innings in a sweep Monday. Zach Klabo threw a one-hitter in the first game, striking out three without a walk. St. Mary's got its runs in the sixth as Cody Erhardt went 2-for-3 with an RBI and D.J. Schmitz added the other RBI. In the second game, Drew Eichele, who had a double in the first game, was 2-for-2 with an RBI. - May 15, 2007

Bismarck Tribune - Allen hunts down goose eggs - Century's Alex Allen struck out seven and stranded 10 St. Mary's runners as the Patriots blanked the Saints 3-0 on Tuesday at Municipal Ballpark. Allen's seven goose eggs salvaged a doubleheader split for the Patriots, who dropped a 5-1 decision in the first game. That contest was dominated by Saints pitcher Zach Klabo. - May 9, 2007

The team that scored 28 runs in a Saturday doubleheader sweep of Jamestown, managed just eight hits against Bismarck's Jared Hochhalter and Esley Thorton. Bismarck Tribune - Area Sports - Bismarck State's Josh Standing Elk is one of two Mystics named to the All-Mon-Dak Conference team for 2007. Standing Elk, a sophomore third baseman-pitcher from Bismarck, won two of his five decisions this season and led the Mystics in innings with 37. He posted a 2.46 earned run average. Standing Elk also batted .221 with four doubles and seven runs batted in. - May 8, 2007

Bismarck Tribune - Smrekar, Gorder get Higgins Award - Dan Smekar and Dwight Gorder received the Roger Higgins Award at the Bismarck Quarterback Clubs annual banquet. Past, present, and future Bismarck American Legion and Senior Babe Ruth baseball players were nominated for the Bismarck Quarterback Club's athlete of the year award. U-Mary baseball: Mike Feldman; BSC baseball: Josh Standing Elk; BHS wrestling: Tyler Johnson; BHS baseball: Darren Olson; CHS hockey: Cody Erhardt; St. Mary's baseball: Torey Bohan. Higgins coached the Bismarck American Legion baseball club from 1959-1961, compiling a 100-54 record and coached Bismarck to the 1961 American Legion State Championship. Bismarck Tribune - Loomis, Saints jump all over Demons - Bismarck dug a six-run hole early in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against St. Mary's with Saints ace Matt Loomis on the mound. Loomis, a 6-foot senior right-hander, pitched six shutout innings as the Saints beat Bismarck 6-2. - April 18, 2007

Bismarck Tribune - The time is now for Saints' 3-year men - Matt Loomis, Cody Erhardt, Tom Seifert and Zach Klabo elbowed their way into the St. Mary's baseball lineup in 2005 as an unusually-talented quartet of sophomores. St. Mary's went 10-22 that spring and last year improved to 16-17. Yet the goal of playing in a state tournament eluded them - March 30, 2007
